Grandma’s Song

Gramma Camp has wrapped up for this summer season. As the girls drove off with their dad this evening I was awash in equal parts admiration for his obvious energy and devotion to his girls and sadness that my time with the almost three year old and the six year old were gone forever … Sure – it is a lot of work to keep up to two wee ones this age – but it is also a magical time to be able to fall in love with them all over again. Having these days full of swimming adventures, crafts, donkey chores, special books and bedtimes cement our family bonds forever. We’ll see them again at least by Thanksgiving. That will be a busy weekend full of lots of family and action. By next March Break or next summer they will be the almost four year old and the seven year old … new layers, new interests, new stories to share.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIt was intriguing to buy a “One Direction” album on iTunes today so Kyla could listen to her favourite group … As we chatted she wrote out the names of the boy band singers – Harry and Liam and Louis. She casually dropped Selena Gomez’s name as Justin Bieber’s old girlfriend and said she liked when they sang together… Where has this little pop queen come from? 😉
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe had a great crafts afternoon – stringing bead bracelets – creating play dough characters and spaghetti. We took a run in the ‘Bully’ to pick apples for the donkeys and made sure Rufus and Teddy got their equal share of cuddles.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAnd now they are off to start their new school year … there will be more stories to share … more pictures to send … more times to visit. But I think I will always remember this summer when they were both still wee ones and stole my heart all over again.
